WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

Your veterinarian will explain every step of the process with you and answer any questions regarding your pet’s procedure, recovery time, post-operative care and more.

Managing your pet’s pain and safety is always our foremost concern. Prior to your pet’s surgery, your veterinarian will perform a physical exam and run diagnostics to make sure they are healthy. If we detect any underlying problems, we will postpone your pet’s surgery to a later date.

Your pet will be monitored by an experienced technician throughout their surgery. Analgesics (painkillers), antibiotics and fluids will be administered through an IV catheter to keep your pet stable and comfortable. Our surgery table is heated to maintain your pet’s body temperature, and in recovery, they will be given warm blankets for additional comfort. We will call you as soon as your pet is able to stand and walk on their own, and will discuss home care and medication instructions when you arrive. Do not hesitate to call us in the following days if you have any concerns.

Spay & Neuter FAQs:

What are the health benefits of a dog neuter in Ocala?

Neutering your male dog prevents testicular cancer and reduces prostate issues. It also reduces the urge to roam, lowering his risk of fight injuries or car accidents. For females, spaying is key to preventing serious health problems like breast cancer and uterine infections.

When should I spay or neuter my pet?

Consult our spay and neuter clinic in Ocala to consult with your pet’s vet so you can get a more personalized recommendation. While the common age is around 5 months, your vet can provide a recommendation based on your dog’s specific breed, size, and health.

Will spaying or neutering make my pet fat?

The procedure can slow your pet’s metabolism, but weight gain is not automatic. With proper diet and exercise, you can easily keep your pet at a healthy weight after a dog neuter in Ocala or spay surgery.

Should I let my female dog have one litter first?

No. Spaying your dog before her first heat cycle dramatically reduces her risk of breast cancer, which is often fatal. Allowing a litter offers no health benefit and contributes to pet overpopulation.

Why is this surgery important for Ocala pets?

Spaying and neutering are the only guaranteed ways to prevent unwanted litters. This directly addresses pet overpopulation, reducing the number of homeless animals in our community. A spay and neuter clinic in Ocala provides a vital service to help manage this local issue.
